- Web application served by the local machine; sign-in with company credentials; nothing to install on individual computers.

- Layer 4 · Local LLM
Local LLM
The open-weights language model that reads the question and the passages retrieved by RAG, then composes the answer. It runs on the Mac Studio GPU, loaded from local storage: no cloud model API in the answer path.
- What it does
- Understands the question, reasons over the passages provided and writes the answer, summary or draft, citing the sources it used.
- Components
- Model families such as Qwen, Llama or Kimi, chosen per project; a local runtime such as Ollama, selected to match the model.
- What stays local
- Model weights, prompts and inference stay on the machine. Model, version and licence are defined per project and verified during the pilot.
- Layer 3 · RAG
RAG
Retrieval-Augmented Generation: before generating, the system searches the local index for the passages most relevant to the question and hands them to the model together with a reference to the source document. This is what makes it possible to answer from your documents and cite where each statement comes from.
- What it does
- Turns the question into a semantic and keyword search, selects the best passages and applies permissions: it retrieves only what the person is authorised to see.
- Components
- Local embedding model, vector index and full-text search on the same machine, permission filter linked to the directory.
- What stays local
- Index, embeddings and search results stay on the machine. The index is updated when content changes.
- Layer 2 · Ingestion
Ingestion
The pipeline that reads the agreed sources, extracts the text, splits it into passages and prepares it for the index. It runs continuously: when a document changes, the index is updated.
- What it does
- Reads PDFs, Office documents, email and document management content; recognises text in scans with OCR; keeps the metadata and permissions of every file.
- Components
- Connectors to file servers, document management and mail; format readers; OCR; chunking and embedding computation.

- Working copies of documents and the index live on the machine’s storage, inside the company perimeter.

Documents
The starting point: the archives the organisation already has. No migration, no upload to external services. Privatim connects to the agreed sources and keeps a local, indexed copy.

- An open-weight language model selected for the project, loaded from local storage. Inference runs on the machine, without cloud model APIs.

- A local copy of the agreed sources: file servers, document management or email. The index is updated when the content changes.
- Identity and audit
- Connection to the existing directory, source permissions and a local log of questions and answers. Compatibility and scope are checked during the pilot.

Limits and responsibilities
Answers need checking
Citations support verification but do not eliminate errors. A person remains responsible for how every output is used.
Capacity needs sizing
Local models have limits on the most complex tasks. Large cloud models may be more capable: the pilot measures quality on your actual work.
Security is a shared task
Physical security, power, backups and network segmentation need to be managed within your organisation. Local processing is not a compliance certification.
When the cloud is the simpler choice
For work that can be entrusted to external services, the cloud offers a low initial cost, no hardware to maintain and more elastic capacity. Privatim serves organisations where internal custody of data is a requirement.
System ownership and changing providers
With purchase, the customer owns the hardware: open-weight models, open software and documentation allow another qualified IT provider to take over, subject to applicable licences. With provided hardware, the data remains the customer’s and the machine remains Prescient’s: migration, data deletion and return are defined in the contract. The minimum term is 12 months.
Does data ever leave the organisation?
In everyday use, documents, the index, requests and inference stay on the local machine. Updates and remote assistance are managed separately and require customer approval. The pilot also verifies actual traffic within your network.
Does installing it make us compliant?
No. The system helps maintain internal custody and document access and use, but does not discharge your organisation’s obligations. Assessments under GDPR, the Swiss FADP, NIS2 and sector rules must still be made for your specific situation.
Who can see the documents?
People authorised according to the permissions of connected sources. Directory integration, permission propagation and edge cases are verified with your IT team before production use.
Who handles the contract and support?
Prescient Ventures SA, Melano, Switzerland, is the sole partner for the contract, invoicing and support. The customer remains the controller of their data. Any access to data during support must be governed by a data processing agreement appropriate to the service.
What if we decide to change provider?
With purchase, the customer owns the hardware: open-weight models, open software and documentation allow another qualified IT provider to take over, subject to applicable licences. With provided hardware, the data remains the customer’s and the machine remains Prescient’s: migration, data deletion and return are defined in the contract. The minimum term is 12 months.
What should I prepare for the demonstration?
Nothing to install. We visit your office with the machine and an example archive for your sector. The demonstration takes 20 minutes. Your own documents only enter the process during the agreed pilot.
